Optimising Cancer Prevention and Early Detection: Evidence-Based Approaches to Screening and Risk Reduction

Cancer remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, with prevention and early detection representing critical strategies for reducing disease burden. This research programme comprises two complementary studies that address fundamental gaps in our understanding of cancer prevention and screening effectiveness.
The first study examines the intersection between lifestyle factors and cancer outcomes, investigating how physical activity influences both screening behaviours and cancer outcomes. The second study focuses on establishing the diagnostic performance of current screening tools to inform future screening programme improvement strategies.
The programme adopts a dual approach to cancer prevention research. This comprehensive approach addresses both primary prevention through lifestyle modification and secondary prevention through evidence-based screening strategies. Together, these investigations will provide evidence to optimise both individual-level interventions and population-level screening strategies in Singapore’s healthcare system.
