*NEW* - A Study of Genetics and Genomics to Understand Disease Biology to Guide Drug Discovery and Development

Developing new medicines remains challenging and one hurdle is identifying biological targets that drive a disease. Researchers can study naturally occurring genetic differences (DNA variants) in very large groups of people to learn more about the genes that contribute, often subtly, to different diseases. By linking genetic differences to differences in body measurements, such as protein levels in the blood, researchers can also potentially learn more about underlying disease biology.

GSK has extensive experience in human genetics research and has previously shown that new drug development programs supported by genetic evidence are around twice as likely to succeed in clinical trials. We therefore work with scientists and studies from around the world to build on this foundational insight. In the PRECISE SG100K study, we will investigate multiple diseases, such as those affecting the liver, kidney and cardiorespiratory systems. Through this research, we hope to learn more about disease biology, contribute to finding new drug targets and to support the wider use of medicines being developed.
